William Mulready (1 April – 7 July ) was an Irish genre painter living in is best known for his romanticizing depictions of rural scenes, and for creating Mulready stationery letter sheets, issued at the same time as the Penny Black postage stamp.   A thread for Mulready envelopes and lettersheets. William Mulready is remembered today chiefly as a painter of genre pictures who in his use of color antedated the Pre-Raphaelites. His paintings, which in their time were compared with those of the old masters, are rarely seen and are sometimes dismissed as sentimental evocations of a peaceful countryside that never really existed.4/5.

Dafforne's works were mostly compilations from the Journal: Pictures of Daniel Maclise, R.A.; also the Pictures of William Mulready, of Leslie and Maclise, of Clarkson Stanfield, R.A., Sir Edwin Landseer, and compiled the Pictorial he published a book on the Albert his final book appeared, The Life and Works of Edward Matthew Ward, R.A.
